The rejuvenated heart of Belfast City is now home to the funky Bullitt Hotel. Under the same family ownership as the nearby 5* Merchant Hotel, Bullitt Belfast, named after the legendary Steve McQueen motion picture, is a new breed of hotel in the ever-expanding accommodation sector in the city. A set of renovated office buildings right in the heart of the city adjacent to the upmarket Victoria Square shopping arcade, Bullitt is a trendy, playful property that delivers all of the essentials, but in a contemporary urban setting. Entering off the main shopping street, you are immediately struck by the vibrant artwork and stunning centerpiece of whiskey barrels stacked in the middle of an open-air courtyard, that doubles as an outdoor bar area, leading to the reception.
The ground floor is a lively space with a superb espresso bar and lounge area (Bullitt Bar) that always buzzes with activity and chatter. The hotel’s main eateries, Taylor & Clay (again the movie reference), is one of the city’s best restaurants in our opinion. A fabulous Asador grill is its secret. This wood burning grill that uses sustainable forest products produces some of the most flavorful steaks, seafood, and vegetables that you will taste anywhere in the world. The menu has global influences but the chef’s use the most beautiful Irish produce sourced as locally as possible to make it all happen and the flavors are mouth-watering.
Accommodation at Bullitt is not your typical find. There are three very distinctive room categories, that very much say all you need to know in their names – ‘Dinky,’ ‘Comfy’ and ‘Roomy.’ The former is a particularly bijou room and not really suitable for golfers, especially not those that are looking to bring their clubs to bed. The Comfy and Romy categories are very much appropriate and are incredibly comfortable accommodations. King sized beds, or a twin option is available, and all of the rooms include high resolution LED TV’s, complimentary Wi-Fi and drenching rain showers. Comfy rooms range from 15-20sq meters in size, with the Roomy rooms up to 35sqm of space. There are 74 rooms in total in Bullitt, and they offer a complimentary Grab and Go bag for all guests for breakfast as an alternative to the restaurant option – for golf groups with an early tee time, this can be a fantastic option.
The rooftop of Bullitt is where you will find ‘Babel,’ a sophisticated bar and dining space overlooking the rooftops of Belfast. Indoors you can experience a superb range of cocktails and gin’s in particular, while outside, the retractable roof, cozy blankets and gas fires keep everyone warm no matter the weather may have in store.
