Turnberry Hotel & Villas

No golf vacation in Scotland is complete without playing and staying at Turnberry

Ayr, Scotland

An iconic landmark, situated on Scotland’s renowned Ayrshire coastline since 1906, and just sixteen miles from Ayr, Trump Turnberry is a truly exceptional property in every way. Nestled on an 800-acre estate, this Edwardian Building has been given an entirely new lease of life in the past number of years as a result of substantial investment, and is now one of the most beautiful golf resort hotel experiences in Scotland.

There are 192 rooms on offer in Turnberry including four suites, named after the four winners of the Turnberry Opens, Watson, Norman, Price, and Cink. Moreover, there is the iconic two-bedroom suite in The Turnberry Lighthouse that rises above the ruins of King Robert the Bruce’s Castle at the 9th tee box. All of the bedrooms have a very luxurious interior, and wonderful resort or sea views complement many.

Deluxe King rooms contain hand-carved walnut burl mahogany beds with bedside tables which feature gold leaf detail yet retain the iconic history with careful restoration throughout. Ocean view rooms look out towards the Irish Sea towards Ailsa Craig and beyond, which is truly spectacular. There is also a collection of villas on the estate that come equipped with a kitchen, open plan living space, and two large ensuite bedrooms. There are also some eight-bedroom villas on offer that are ideal for larger golfing groups, and all of them are located very close to the central hotel and have access to all of the Resort facilities.

The main restaurant on site is the 1906, overlooking the Ailsa Links course with views to Arran. The dining experience is to be savored, with steak and lobster cooked on a Josper Grill then drizzled with butter and served with a salad as just one of the signature dishes. ‘The Duel in the Sun’ restaurant is located in the Clubhouse and overlooking the 18th green on the Championship course is a must. Inspired by the famous 1977 Open battle between Tom Watson and Jack Nicklaus, the atmosphere is immense here.

The Halfway House on the Ailsa Course is arguably one of the most impressive and iconic of all halfway houses in the world. It is situated in Turnberry’s iconic lighthouse between the 9th & 10th holes and is beautifully decorated with spellbinding views over the ocean. It would be easy to forget; there are still nine holes to play.

The Grand Tea Lounge & Bar is the setting for afternoon tea and treats by day and then is the main bar of the hotel by night offering over 250 whiskeys. This is a favorite spot and the real beating heart of the hotel situated immediately beside the main doors and adjacent reception.

Guests can access some of the best leisure facilities of any resort in Scotland at Trump Turnberry that include a state-of-the-art fitness center, an indulgent Spa to relax and unwind during your stay and a fabulous swimming pool and water therapy zone.

The jewels in the crown, of course, are the golf courses, with two 18-hole courses and one 9-hole course, you will not be disappointed with the quality or variety on offer. The legendary 7,489 yards, par-71 Ailsa course, is known throughout the world for its tight opening holes and is incredibly challenging even for the most skilled golfers. Following a redesign by golf course architect, Martin Ebert, the Ailsa is arguably the number one course in the UK & Ireland in many people’s minds.

In 2017, Trump Turnberry unveiled a new golf experience on the Ayrshire coast, the great King Robert the Bruce course, named after the first king of Scotland. At 7,203 yards and a par-72, the King Robert the Bruce features spectacular views of Turnberry’s coastline, castle ruins and, of course, the lighthouse and since its refurbishment, is seen as one of the most beautiful second courses anywhere in the UK & Ireland.

As well as golf, Trump Turnberry offers archery, horseback riding, air rifle shooting, mini Highland Games, and quad biking making it an all-round destination for guests and golfers alike. Here at the Consummate Pro, we highly recommend the quality and facilities at Turnberry and cannot recommend the rejuvenated Ailsa Course highly enough to guests. No golf vacation in Scotland is complete without playing and staying at Turnberry at some point on your golfing odyssey.
