The Savoy London

"The Savoy is much more than a hotel."

Strand, London, England

This landmark Grade II listed hotel, opened in August of 1889, is the only luxury hotel located right on the River Thames in the heart of central London. The hotel was owned by Richard D’Oyly Carte, who used the profits from his very successful Gilbert & Sullivan Opera to create this hospitality masterpiece. When it opened the Savoy was the first hotel to use electric lighting throughout, have electric lifts and also constant hot and cold running water.

There are 267 spectacular bedrooms housed within the magnificent Savoy. The Superior Queen Rooms, for example, celebrate the Savoy’s dual historical influences of Edwardian or Art Deco design. The views come in the form of the Thames, Embankment or the wider city of London.
The bathrooms consist of luxurious marble and are lavishly furnished. Penhaligon’s luxury English bathroom amenities are available throughout, and rooms have a private mini-bar, coffee maker, daily newspaper and magazines and access to indoor pool and gym.

Befitting such a prestigious hotel, there are several exclusive Personality Suites. With a reputation for welcoming personalities throughout its life, these four art deco rooms have been named after the wit and charm of Mel Brooks, Noel Coward, Frank Sinatra, and Richard Harris. These Suites are vast, with separate dressing areas and sitting rooms, marble bathrooms with claw feet baths, double vanity units and walk-in showers and they all benefit from a Savoy Butler service.

Restaurants and Bars come in abundance at the Savoy with Kasper’s at the Savoy, Simpson’s in the Strand, Thames Foyer, Knight’s Bar, The American Bar, The Savoy Grill and In-Room Dining you are spoilt for choice.

At the heart of the hotel is the Thames Foyer. This stunning glass atrium houses an impressive gazebo which takes center stage while a pianist during the day and a lively band at night entertain guests. This is where the Savoy’s famous afternoon tea has been served for over a century and was where the concept of a dinner dance was first born. Breakfast, coffee, and light lunches are all be served here.

Beauty and fitness are catered for on the third floor of the Savoy. There is a magnificent swimming pool with its atrium, natural light, sauna, steam room and loungers around the pool. There are specialist treatments on offer using exceptional products such as Nature Bisse for facials and Aromatherapy Associates for body treatments.

The Savoy is much more than a hotel and prides itself on experiences such as the British Afternoon Tea, Savoy Masterclasses, Savoy Breakfast, Savoy Rolls Royce and Private River Cruises all creating memories to last a lifetime.

The Savoy was the first purpose-built deluxe hotel in Britain when it opened its doors in 1889 offering comfort, luxury, and service and it is a brand which has stood the test of time and is the most spectacular of properties from which to explore London either before or after your golf vacation in England.
