The Bonham

The decor is very sympathetic to the building’s Georgian history

Edinburgh, Scotland

The Bonham Hotel is located in the exclusive, sleepy West End of Edinburgh, merely minutes away from the city’s main attractions and is often referred to as one of Scotland’s most beautiful. The hotel is eclipsed by the backdrop of the magnificent Scottish capital and has terrific views of Drumsheugh Gardens or North over the New Town towards the Firth of Forth and the Kingdom of Fyfe.

The hotel is made up of three, 19th Century townhouses, and its interior consist of priceless art, vintage fabrics and vibrant colors to reflect its Georgian and Victorian past. The building has a fascinating history with the houses being occupied by well to do families and their servants over sixty years. In 1939, the homes were sold and became collectively known as the “Private Clinic,” a private medical practice specializing in maternity care, and over the next twelve years hundreds of babies were delivered on the premises, who then became known as the “Bonham Babies.”

All 49 bedrooms within the Bonham have Hypnos beds, luxurious bed linens, mini-fridges with complimentary water, welcome trays with tea and coffee, Wi-Fi and 24-hour room service. The Junior and Executive Suites have bathrobes and slippers and Segofredo coffee machines as standard. The overall feel of these rooms is fresh and bright with an abundance of light having the opportunity to flood the bedrooms through the enormous windows.

‘Restaurant at the Bonham,’ offers an eclectic menu of European inspired cuisine with a Scottish influence, using only the best produce from local suppliers. It is open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Breakfast offers a variety of classical options such as porridge, a Full Scottish breakfast with all the trimmings and Eggs Benedict. Lunch and dinner have wonderful Á La Carte menus including crab remoulade, roast borders pheasant and chocolate and hazelnut crème with blood orange and hazelnut crumb.

The decor is very sympathetic to the building’s Georgian history, highlighting the original chestnut honey-colored wood paneling and smoky grey walls. The public spaces within the Bonham have an air of calm, making for a relaxed setting for any stay.

Nestled beside the famous Princes Street with its bustling cafes and upmarket boutiques, The Bonham is within walking distance of the Royal Mile, as well as the world-famous attractions of Edinburgh Castle and St Giles Cathedral. The golf courses of East Lothian are no more than an hour drive from the hotel, including Muirfield, Gullane, North Berwick, and Musselburgh.
