The Royal Golf Hotel in Dornoch is a golfer’s haven, located just 50 yards from the 1st tee of Royal Dornoch, making it the shortest walk from a hotel to a golf course, in the world. The property hasn’t always been a hotel and started life as the home of Scottish baker, flour merchant, and art lover, Robert Thomas Hamilton-Bruce in approximately 1885. It had an exciting past and even at one point housed Norwegian soldiers during WWII. It closed in 2006 for some time, but reopened in 2010 under the current owners as a four-star golf resort.
The hotel has twenty-two beautiful ensuite rooms many of which overlook the golf course and each has its style. These rooms are categorized as Classic Double/Twin, Suites, Master Rooms, Classic Singles or Royal Golf Apartments.
The Ross and Morris Suites have lovely golf course and sea views. These refurbished suites have comfortable king-sized beds, with the Ross Suite benefitting from an additional double sofa bed for guests and the Morris Suite having the ability to split into two single beds if required.
The Royal Golf Apartments provide all the comforts of a self-catering facility with the added benefit of being able to use the facilities of the hotel. The apartments overlook the first tee of Dornoch also and are open-plan with two large bedrooms, one ensuite, a modern kitchen and a lounge. They are tastefully decorated with oak finishing’s and marble bathrooms, and there are twelve apartments in total.
Dining at the Royal Golf Hotel is undertaken in the Conservatory Restaurant which offers a bistro/brasserie style experience with stunning views of the golf course, the Dornoch Firth and beyond. All meals can enjoy an extensive wine list and a selection of over 35 malts. The Dining room is available for private dining and can seat up to 30 persons, and the Bar and Lounge are famous for its post golf hospitality; possessing a whiskey wall and beautiful drawings of Royal Dornoch’s memorable golf holes it is the perfect place to unwind after a day on the links.
