One of the best facilities in Ireland, the Old Head Golf Links is about to get even better with some significant developments.
A round at Old Head is one of the most sought after on the island of Ireland for international visitors. And it’s not hard to understand why. The Old Head Golf Links is one of the most spectacular and dramatic pieces of golfing real estate anywhere in the world. The course sits on a promontory jutting out into the ocean where the Atlantic meets the Irish Sea. The links winds its way around the headland creating some of the most stunning views, and holes in Ireland. The 250m cliffs, tee boxes perched on tenuous rocky outcrops and greens that seem to be glued to the side of the hills, make this a rollercoaster ride from start to finish.
The desire to improve and develop the property is never ending. The new tee box on the 8th affords better Atlantic views and there is also a new green to accompany it. The 9th hole has also been improved with the addition of a new tee complex. However, it is around the clubhouse where the biggest changes are planned. The property already had 15 comfortable Suites, and these have just been redeveloped and upgraded. To this, they will be adding 6 further new Suites, an extension of the bar and restaurant, a private dining area, new spa area, new golf shop and additional locker room facilities. The entrance to the clubhouse, as can be seen below, is also being upgraded.
The Farm Site
The property is also hoping to develop what is know as the “Farm Site” at Black Head on the peninsula. The plan there is to build four, 4-bedroom cottages, and a further two, 4-bedroom cottages with entertainment space in ‘The Barn’ (see image). A date for construction hasn’t yet been finalised but it is sure to be a welcome addition to Old Head.
Old Head is one of the premier golf courses in Ireland and these additions will only improve the visitor experience. We at The Consummate Pro would be delighted to bring you there to experience it for yourself.
