Mount Falcon Estate

"Few places in Ireland compare to Mount Falcon."

Ballina, Co. Mayo, Ireland

The Mount Falcon Estate is located on the outskirts of Ballina in Co. Mayo in the west of Ireland and is ideally situated between Enniscrone Golf Club (8miles); Carne (Belmullet) Golf Club (41miles) and Co. Sligo Golf Club (43miles). The estate comprises of a luxury 32 bedroom ‘Victorian Gothic Manor House’ property that was originally built in 1876 and 45 luxury lodges dotted around the estate. This beautiful 100-acre woodland estate also has a stretch of the River Moy running through it, which is one of the wealthiest Salmon and Sea Trout rivers in the whole of Ireland. Owned and managed by the Maloney Family, they have transformed the property into one of Irelands’ leading hotels. Though there has been continual investment and expansion in the last ten years, in particular, the family have retained all of the original charms of the property. It is a multi-award-winning property that includes accolades from the AA, as Hotel of the Year in 2009/10, Boutique Hotel of the Year in 2011 and Best Manor House Hotel in Ireland in 2015.

There is a fantastic choice of accommodation at Mount Falcon which is perfect for a golf vacation to Ireland. Superior bedrooms, of which there are 26 in the Manor, are very well appointed and spacious with high ceilings, beautiful cornicing and free-standing furniture, to add a little timeless elegance. All of the accommodations have excellent amenities as you would expect, complimentary Wi-Fi, flat screen TV’s, mineral water, etc. These Superior rooms sit alongside four original Deluxe rooms in the main Manor House. These rooms are again beautifully appointed with sleigh beds, 15foot high ceilings, original marble fireplaces, antique furniture, and pitch pine shutters and floors – classic Manor House décor, completely reimagined for the modern day.

The two signature Suites in the Manor are the ‘Wallpool Suite’ and the “Connor Suite.’ Original sash windows provide a stunning view across the estate from both of these rooms. The furniture is classic, timeless elegance, with the traditional décor given a modern touch. The bathroom in the ‘Wallpool Suite’ for example is like taking a step back in time. A free-standing cast iron bath sits at the windows overlooking the woods, sanitary wear that reflects the period, double sinks and even a cast iron towel rail and radiator finish the look; a window on the past brought up to date.

There are three different types of Lodges on the estate – Courtyard, Lakeside, and Woodland and they range in size from 1,350 sq. ft to 1,650 sq ft in size. The Courtyard is reminiscent of a stable area where exposed natural stone and wood is prominent. The fireplaces on the ground floor add a sense of warmth to these modern accommodations. The Lakeside is a three-bedroom accommodation of 1,460 sq. ft in size with two bedrooms upstairs and an open plan living area and kitchen on the ground floor. These are great options for golfers as some of the beds can be made into twins and so the occupancy increases accordingly, and all rooms are en-suite. Fully equipped with all modern conveniences – another excellent solution for groups are the Woodland Lodges. Three bedrooms spread across two floors, an open plan living space, centerpiece fireplace, fully fitted kitchen and cozy underfloor heating – the ultimate in comfort and convenience for golf groups.

Food lovers are well catered for at Mount Falcon. The Kitchen Restaurant, named as it was the site of the original kitchen in the Manor, is a beautiful space comprising various little nooks and annexes that give it great character. The estate provides a great deal of the ingredients for the kitchen, producing herbs, vegetables, and some other seasonal produce. The Bolthole Bar is one of our favorite bars in Ireland. A cozy, welcoming space, it is incredibly conducive to conversation that it bubbles away from morning to night. When the fire is lit, the lights are down, and the ‘craic’ is flowing, there’s no better place for a pint of Guinness or a wee dram in our opinion.

Mount Falcon offers guests a wide range of outdoor activities to enjoy while they are staying on the estate. We have already mentioned fishing, and to that list, you can include clay pigeon shooting, archery, falconry, and biking. For those of you that can’t get away from your golf fix, there is even a nine-bay driving range on the grounds where you can ensure that your swing is fully functioning for the next day’s play.

If that all sounds too energetic, Mount Falcon has a 17m indoor heated swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, and spa to help relax and rejuvenate to body and mind.

Few places in Ireland compare to Mount Falcon for the quality of product, service, and experience and would rank as one of the Consummate Pro’s favorite places to stay and visit in Ireland. We cannot recommend it highly enough.
