Greywalls & Chez Roux

Greywalls is a one-of-a-kind country house

Edinburgh, Scotland

Greywalls is a one-of-a-kind country house located just outside the East Lothian golfing town of Gullane and only 30 minutes from Edinburgh and is the ideal getaway for golf enthusiasts. Proudly overlooking the 9th and 18th holes of Muirfield the hotel dates all the way back to 1901 and continues to retain a wonderful sense of Edwardian character and charm throughout.
The house has twenty-three stylish ensuite bedrooms, each one having its own unique décor. The antique furniture ensures that the bedrooms continue to showcase the Edwardian splendor. Rooms include; a Premium Spa Double room, eleven Large rooms, one small double room, four Large Cottage Double rooms, and two Small Cottage Double rooms. Furthermore, located just 100-yards from the main house are four equally stunning single bedded Caddy Closet rooms.
A further 500-yards along is the Colonel’s House providing self-contained accommodation for up to eight people, which is ideal for golfing groups. This beautiful lodge was built in the 1960s for then owner, Colonel Weavers, retirement. The lodge contains a drawing room with French windows opening on to a private garden and terrace, there is a full kitchen for those preferring to dine within the house, and there is also a small, cozy study. The four good-sized bedrooms are comfortably furnished, and each has its own bathroom. Two of the bedrooms are ensuite, and two have their bathroom located just outside the bedroom. There are two further single rooms annexed off one of the double rooms; these require shared bathroom facilities.

Greywalls is renowned for its exquisite food. It was the first hotel to have a Chez Roux Restaurant in Scotland, and the menus are exciting, with an array of updated classics delivered with French flair. If you want to embrace Scottish cuisine, a restaurant favorite is whisky, brown sugar and cream porridge followed by venison sausages. Food is served in the bar, but drinks can be enjoyed in the Library and Drawing Room, ideal locations to chill out in front of the open fires and beautiful decor. There is also a lavish Garden Room and Terrace to explore. Fine wines are available to accompany lunch and dinner, and there is a large choice of malt whiskies and cognacs to pass the evening.
The walled garden at Greywalls offers a grass tennis court, croquet lawn and putting green for those looking for some outdoor pursuits.
East Lothian has often been called a golfer’s paradise. The region’s microclimate ensures more playable days than elsewhere in Scotland and most of East Lothian’s golf courses are traditional links style with undulating fairways, pot bunkers, gorse and heather lined fairways. With ten golf courses, including four championship courses within 5 miles of Greywalls, this is the perfect venue for anyone wishing to sample the full spectrum of Scottish Golf and accommodation at its best.
