Dunvegan

The Dunvegan, in the heart of St Andrew’s

St. Andrews, Scotland

The Dunvegan Hotel can be found on the corner of Golf Place and North Street in St Andrew’s about 100 yards away from the 18th green of the Old Course, a seven-minute walk from St Andrew’s University and a five-minute walk from the beach. This golf-themed hotel and bar are probably one of the most famous of its kind in the world of golf.

All bedrooms are finished to a very high standard with two twin bedded rooms; larger rooms containing two queen size beds and the smaller rooms, two single beds. Amenities include power showers, comfortable beds, TVs and tea/coffee making facilities.

There is also a Suite named ‘Auchterlonies’ which sleeps six people within three self-contained bedrooms and two bathrooms, great for golfing groups. The Suite is located in a building across the road from the hotel above the famous Auchterlonies Golf Shop. It has a large living room to reminisce on the day’s golfing adventures, TV and card table, tea/coffee making facilities and a kitchen. A combination of double and single beds, power showers and jacuzzi baths makes this an ideal accommodation option for golfers. Breakfast can be served at your required time should you have an early or late tee time, from the main hotel.

The Claret Jug Restaurant, named in honor of the famous Open Championship trophy, is a cozy informal dining room in the hotel with the golf theme apparent throughout. The walls are adorned with prints and photos of Open Champions holding the coveted Claret Jug following their historic victories on the Old Course.

Probably one of the most famous 19th holes in all of world golf can be found at the Dunvegan – the Golfer’s Corner. As the heart of the hotel, this bar has a wonderful atmosphere with the friendly character of Dunvegan very apparent. The walls of the bar are decorated with over 150 prints flowing in chronological order illustrating the Open Champions on the Old Course from Tom Kidd in 1873 to the modern-day champions, all showcasing iconic moments frozen in time.

The upper walls and ceilings are laced with world-famous golfers that have visited the Dunvegan including over 27 Open Champions. The outlaying walls of the hotel also contain golfing celebrities from sport and film that have visited over the years (including the first man on the moon) as well as hundreds of friends and customers down the years.

In the Golfer’s Corner you can enjoy bar snacks and meals including iconic fish and chips, burgers, sandwiches, steak pies and much more all cooked from fresh and local produce. An excellent selection of beers, ales, and spirits including over 50 single malt whiskeys are behind the bar. Live golf from all around the world is never far from the large HD TVs, late into the evenings and your only real concern is to get there early to beat the crowds!

The Dunvegan, in the heart of St Andrew’s, is a friendly, iconic property that you must visit on a visit to the town. A museum to the great Champion Golfers of yesteryear, it is arguably the most iconic hotel and bars in world golf.
