Culloden House

"A historic luxury hotel, set in beautiful countryside is a tranquil getaway."

Culloden, Inverness, Scotland

Culloden House is a historic luxury hotel set within forty acres of beautiful countryside, on the East side of Inverness very close to Castle Stuart Golf Course. At the time of the Jacobite uprising in 1745, Culloden House was requisitioned by Bonnie Prince Charles as his lodging and battlefield headquarters. The Culloden Battlefield, Clava Cairns Neolithic site, Cawdor Castle and Inverness Airport are all within ten miles of the house.

This tranquil getaway has twenty-eight rooms available for guests to enjoy, all of which contain private baths and showers, TV, trouser press, hairdryer, telephone, and Wi-Fi. The Suites include many original features such as marble fireplaces, crystal chandeliers, separate living rooms, and breathtaking views. All of the suites also contain Bose music systems. Superior rooms provide integrated seating areas and are located on the first and top floors. Classic rooms are located in a wing and top floor of the house and have low ceilings and partial views.

Dining is a unique experience within the Adam’s Dining Room of Culloden House, where the dress code is suitably smart casual. Dishes served to include the likes of Loch Funeral Salmon, Sweet Orkney Crab, and Scotch Beef Fillet all from the Highlands.
The Forbes Library Bar is the perfect setting for a spot of whiskey tasting with cellars full of the finest malts. Many of these are rare and exclusive bottles, bought from auctions and private collectors and such is the prowess with which Culloden House deals with its whiskey, they have been recognized as a Malt Whisky Embassy by the Scottish Malt Whisky Society.

Outside, the gardens have been fully restored to former glories, including the walled garden that was built in the eighteenth century by the Forbes family. The grounds are often awash with bluebells, rhododendrons and other varied species from around the world.

As well as a fabulous base for golf, Culloden House can offer tennis, croquet, woodland walks, and stunning jogging trails. Fishing is also possible as the estate owns four beats on the Findhorn River, one of the finest salmon rivers in Europe. A resident ghillie will assist guests if they fancy spending a few hours chasing Scottish Salmon. Alternatively, if guests are interested, Culloden can arrange for a professional shoot over this world-famous sporting estate.

Golf is, of course, the jewel in the crown with 33 courses within an hour’s drive including Royal Dornoch, Nairn, and Castle Stuart.
