It is universally agreed that Carnoustie is one of the fiercest, and popular venues on the Open Championship rota. The battles that have ensued over the years – the infamous Van de Velde trip to the Barrie Burn, the Harrington/Garcia playoff and Tom Watson’s victory on his Open debut – have all shaped the history of the Open, and Carnoustie. It is a sublime test of a golfer’s skill. There is an almost perfect mix of holes at Carnoustie, played in all directions, facing multiple natural challenges. Even in benign conditions it is testing, but add a stiff sea breeze and the task multiplies. A bucket-list course if there ever was one. However, this trip has several other great links experiences included. Panmure is just a short hop from Carnoustie and is one of the most enjoyable days you will have on a golf course. Neighbouring Monifieth is a similar unexpected joy. Two beautifully sculpted links courses that will test the best. Heading back towards St. Andrews and Leven, Elie (Golf House Club) and Crail are really fun experiences as well as some of the oldest links courses in Scotland. A fabulous golf trip for any enthusiast of the game.
